Turning E-Waste into Opportunity

eRecyclee.org & the AI-Powered Smart Recycling Station

Who We Are

eRecyclee.org is a Seattle-based nonprofit organization working to solve two connected
problems: the growing crisis of electronic waste and the lack of access to technology for
underserved communities.

Every year, millions of usable devices are thrown away. At the same time, many students and
families cannot afford basic technology. Our mission is simple: recover value from discarded
electronics and turn it into education, access, and environmental impact.

We collect unwanted electronic devices, refurbish them when possible, and donate them to
people who need them most. At the same time, we run community programs and STEM
workshops that teach how technology works and how responsible recycling protects the
environment.

Introducing the Smart Recycling Station

The AI-Powered Smart Recycling Station is our newest innovation — designed to change how
people think about recycling electronics.

It is not just a bin.
It is a smart system that combines artificial intelligence, automation, secure data protection, and
renewable energy to make e-waste recycling easier, safer, and more educational.

The station features a compact, modern design with an interactive display and a secure device
entry slot for phones, tablets, and other small electronics. It is built for use in schools,
universities, and community spaces.

What Happens When You Donate a Device?

Smart Recognition

When a device is placed inside, the system uses AI-assisted visual and sensor analysis to identify what kind of device it is and estimate whether it can be reused or should be recycled.

️Automated Sorting

The device is then automatically routed into the correct internal compartment, reducing manual handling and making the recycling process safer and more efficient.

Privacy First

Before any device is prepared for reuse, the system applies a secure data-erasure process. It detects the type of storage inside the device and selects an appropriate wiping method, ensuring that personal data is removed and donor privacy is protected.

Real-Time Environmental Impact

The screen shows real-time impact data such as how much electronic waste has been collected and how much landfill waste has been avoided. This helps users see the environmental value of their action immediately.

Smart Donation Matching

The screen shows real-time impact data such as how much electronic waste has been collected and how much landfill waste has been avoided. This helps users see the environmental value of their action immediately.

Introducing the Smart Recycling Station

The Smart Recycling Station is designed to run using its own power through an integrated solar
charging system. An intelligent power-management feature balances energy use between the
display, sensors, and processing systems, allowing the station to operate in outdoor and lowinfrastructure locations.

This makes the station suitable for deployment in parks, campuses, and community spaces
without relying on constant grid power

A Learning Tool, Not Just a Machine

The station also acts as a public learning platform.

Its interactive display can show:

  • how electronic devices work
  • what happens to devices after donation
  • how recycling saves resources
  • how artificial intelligence supports sustainability

Students use the station as part of hands-on STEM programs to explore electronics, renewable
energy, data, and environmental science through real-world interaction.

Protected Innovation

The design of the Smart Recycling Station has been officially registered with the UK Intellectual
Property Office. This registration protects the physical design of the system and recognizes the
originality of its structure and layout.

Our Vision

We believe electronic waste should not be treated as trash.
It should be treated as:

  • a learning resource
  • a community asset
  • an environmental opportunity

By combining AI-driven sorting, secure data handling, renewable energy, and education,
eRecyclee.org is building a model where technology reuse, sustainability, and social good work
together.

Our goal is to place Smart Recycling Stations in schools, universities, and community spaces
while expanding our STEM programs and device donation efforts across more communities.
